   All Together Now

Working with mixed ages & abilities

Many years ago, I was due to lead a mixed age workshop at a pretty big event and had chosen 2 contrasting pieces of music. I was either going to choreograph one of the cre8 dances or teach the song in BSL and show it, as part of the main evening's meeting.

As everyone came in, panting (they'd put our workshop somewhere in up Ben Nevis) I tried not to let my chin hit the floor. What was I going to do? There was no way , bless them, that they were going to learn one of our dances. Oh well, I thought, we'll go with a signed song (which was either "O Sacred King" or "The Father's Song" both by Matt Redman if you're interested)

I really shouldn't have been so discouraging, both of their abilities and how they would be able to pick this up.  I swallowed my words as we showed the song to people from other workshops.  It was beautiful. And tear making, but in a happy, brilliant way.

Since then, it hasn't mattered about age, ability, or anything else for that matter. What does matter is getting all ages together, seeing who can do what and utilising every talent & gift to create something unique, awe-inspiring and breath-taking. Just look through the website & see what will fit the bill, then get ready for fun, some hard work, a few tears a whole lotta laughter!
